✅ Gun Cleaning DO’s

1. Do Clean from Breech to Muzzle

Always clean your barrel from the breech (chamber end) toward the muzzle.

Why?

• Protects the crown of your barrel (critical for accuracy)
• Follows the natural direction of bullet travel
• Reduces the risk of damaging rifling

• Upset every gunsmith within a 50-mile radius

If you must clean from the muzzle (rare cases only), use a proper bore guide.

2. Don’t Over-Lubricate

More oil ≠ more reliability.

Too much lubrication can:

• Trap debris
• Cause sluggish cycling

Your carry gun lives inside your waistband. It does not need to look like it just escaped an oil spill.

Light, intentional lubrication on contact points is the goal.

3. Don’t Use Household Substitutes

Common “creative” mistakes include:

• Do not use WD-40 as primary lubricant
• Do not use Motor oil from your truck
• Do not use Brake cleaner, especially on polymer frames
• Don’t use Paper towels that shred inside the action

This January, Otis will welcome Brad McIntrye as the new CEO of Otis Technology.  Brad has been a dedicated member of the Otis team for over 25 years, and is the current Executive Vice President. We sat down with the incoming CEO to get his perspective on taking on this new role, leading the company that he has helped shape over nearly 3 decades.

What do you like to do with your free time?
I enjoy going to concerts, camping, boating, and just sitting by a campfire with my family and friends. On Sundays, I love watching the LA Rams play football.

What animal do you think best represents your personality?
I’d say a honey badger. Like a honey badger, I’m focused and determined to get things done without wasting time sweating the small stuff. 

If you could bring back one fashion trend, what would it be and why?
Sports team starter jackets, hands down. They were bold, colorful, and instantly told the world who you were rooting for. They made you feel like part of the team, even if your athletic career peaked in gym class.

 
If you could be a fictional character, who would you be?
Wolverine from X-Men, no question. He’s tough, resilient, has a no-nonsense attitude, and he’s loyal to his team. Plus, those claws would make opening my Amazon packages way easier.

What is a skill you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet?
Playing the guitar. Because when my favorite band finally calls me up on stage to play with them, I want to be ready to riff.

What does it mean to you to step into the role of CEO at Otis Technology?

It is an incredible honor to lead a company that has been such an important part of my life for decades.  With this tremendous responsibility, I have the privilege to lead the team that writes the next chapter for Otis.

You’ve been with Otis Technology for many years. How has that long-term experience shaped your leadership style?

Being here for 25 years has afforded me the opportunity to learn many roles throughout the organization.  I’ve had a front row seat to the evolution of our company as we faced our fair share of challenges, tackling them with resilience and celebrating our successes.  I’ve learned from incredible leaders, including our ownership, and have had the opportunity to lead my own team.  With that, I’ve learned that leadership is about listening, learning, and making sure the team feels like they’re part of something bigger.

Otis is known for its family roots. How has your relationship with the founding family influenced your journey?

The Williams family taught me that business actually is personal. It’s about trust and treating people like family.

What are your top priorities as you begin your tenure as CEO?

Three things:

1. Culture because happy teams make great products.
2. Efficiency to streamline our processes, drive out waste and put our energy towards the work that matters most.
3. Sales Growth because we all like winning.

How will this leadership transition impact Otis Technology’s mission and long-term vision?

Our mission and long-term vision remain unchanged: to make the best gun care products on the planet and maybe have a little more fun while we do it.  What will change is our renewed focus on our people, and creating an empowered workforce that will help drive sales growth and innovation.

What excites you most about the future of the firearms industry?

One of the most exciting trends in the firearms industry is the influx of new gun owners in recent years. Our industry has always been built on a foundation of proud, passionate, and dedicated enthusiasts—and now we can welcome a new cohort into our community. What makes this so unique is the diversity of today’s firearm owners: they vary in age, gender, profession, and interests. Some own a single firearm while others have extensive collections. Their pursuits range from hunting and competitive shooting to recreational target practice. This diversity brings fresh perspectives and energy to the industry, and it challenges us to innovate in ways that meet the needs of every type of shooter. It’s an exciting time to be part of an industry that’s evolving and expanding.

Otis has built a reputation for innovation in gun cleaning. How do you plan to continue driving product innovation?

We’ll continue to prioritize the voice of the customer.  Listening to end users in the military, law enforcement, and sporting goods channels helps us understand their challenges regarding firearm maintenance.  These insights have driven many of our new products over the years. We’ll keep engaging with our customers,  we’ll keep pushing boundaries to develop solutions that exceed expectations, and we’ll continue to develop products that set the standard for gun care. 

As someone who has worked alongside employees at every level, how do you plan to continue fostering a strong company culture?

What advice would you give to future leaders who may be inspired by your career path?

Don’t be afraid to start!  Embrace every opportunity to learn and grow whenever you can.  I began my career at Otis as a graphic designer before moving into sales.  My career path led me to a leadership role where I most recently held the position of Vice President of Sales.  Every role has taught me something valuable about the business, my colleagues, and myself and has prepared me for my new role as CEO.  I encourage others to be patient but persistent in their leadership journey, as it is an uphill climb rather than a sprint.
